Thought I would share some pictures of my house,garden, and the loss of our tree from a violent storm that passed through last night

My front porch where I enjoy many hours on the porch swing

So this year I bought a topsy turvy just to experiment and see if it worked. It does but I need to water it two times a day.

Some shots of my shade garden and my neighbors yard too. That is her garden shed in the back ground. My husband built it for her.

Now this is my vegetable garden. Has really shurnk down from years past. Carrots,green beans,tomato plant(1), and pepper plants and a whole lot of flower/weeds around it

Woolen Penny Rug Pillows

You can never have too many pillows!

I've been stitching the tops of these pillows for the last couple of weeks.

Using the wool that I over dyed.

I have several more that I'm working on.

I just love the look of these.

I wanted to finish them off with some kind of trim but I didn't really know what to do.

As I was roaming the fabric store it came to me.

Why not rick rack?

Well rick rack it is...the perfect finishing for my pillows.

I wonder what the other C&PLG gals are up to?

well I am working on items for my Christmas show in November. Since the economy has slowed a bit I thought I might as well go ahead and work on Christmas even though it is only April.
New pattern for me from Sweetmeadows farm of a tree topper and LOTS of snowmen ornaments. One from our very own Debbie(barefoot primitives) love this snowman head for my tree.

Flowers, Flowers and More Flowers

I love flowers.

I love, love sunflowers!

In our last post Pat shared some pictures of the flowers growing around her house.

Love these white tulips.

I think I would have cut these and brought them in the house.

Maureen had some beautiful flowers in her yard.

She also planted pansies.

But at my house here in Wisconsin,

it's still cold and we had a dusting of snow yesterday...yuck.

So the only flowers I can show you are my hand made flowers.

I picked yellow ones like Pat and Maureen's but

mine are no match to what mother nature and

2 gals with green thumbs can create.

Friday flowers

Thought I would take a walk around the yard BEFORE it rains and show you some of the flowers blooming today Friday, April 15. Spring is my favorite time of year with all life renewing itself. It always amazes me after that cold,snowy winter these beauties live to bloom again.

What I'm Workin' On Wednesday!

Well my next piece will be this cross stitch alphabet sampler... so far done in 3 shades of blues. There will probably be bunnies or flowers or birdies or some other such prim goodies added as I progress, but haven't landed on anything specific yet. ;o)

The sampler is done on 14 count Oatmeal Aida... so I might not even grubby this one up, just go with the mottled appearance of the Oatmeal. What do ya think?

FOOD FOR FRIDAY

Ok so I am not a cook. I do not like to cook but when I was in the grocery yesterday I saw this seasoning mix. I was hungury so I threw it in my cart. Well we do not try alot of new food around here but i was determined to make it. I read the back recipe and saw I had everything I needed in my pantry at home. Great! So I bought it and today whipped it up for dinner only I added a few of my own touches. I don't know why because like I said I am not a cook nor do I like to cook. Well to start with here Don and I do not eat Mexican. I think we have been to Taco bell maybe twice in 39 years..... So I knew we liked tacos and I knew he LOVEs beans so what you gonna lose??? here is the recipe on the package

LAWRYS CHIMICHURRI BURRITO CASSEROLE

1 1/2 cups of water
1(8oz) can tomato sauce

1 lb ground beef or turkey
1 can(15oz)black beans,drained and rinsed
8 flour tortillas(8 inch) warmed

1 1/2 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend

DIRECTIONS

Mix water,seasoning Mix and tomato sauce until well blended.

BROWN meat in large skillet on medium-high heat. Drain fat. Stir in 1 cup of the sauce mixture and beans. Spoon about 1/2 cup meat mixture into each tortilla. Fold over sides. Place seam side down in greased 13x9x2 inch baking dish. Top with remaining sauce. Sprinkle with cheese

BAKE in preheated 350 degree oven 15 minutes or until heated through and cheese is melted

Ok I did add my own touch by making 2 cups of minute rice and put in the meat,bean mixture however next time I will only add one cup.

I did not have the 8 inch tortillas so I used the large ones. I used a full 2 cups of cheese too.

I baked it longer then 15 mintues also. so all in all it was good but I like spicy and this is NOT spicy

I have decided you could use any taco seasoning mix in this recipe too instead of the one I purchased.We did have lots of leftovers too. With the rice added to the mixture it really made it go a long way. I have a full bowl of mixture leftover and two full burritos. We each ate one and were full however we are old, a teen or working man or woman would probably need more to fill them up. I could have eaten more but did not want to feel "stuffed"

So that is my exciting cooking day I recommend this dish for large crowds it would go a long way .

PS i did use fat free tortilla shells, reduced fat cheese. You could make it healthier I suppose with ground white meat turkey too. I can not tell you the calorie count or anything on this meal.

CIRCLES!

Circles for my penny rugs.

Every so often I take a few hours while watching my favorite tv shows to cut out circles.

Yes, I cut each circle out by hand...It's not so bad.

I just overdyed some wool so I'm cutting some of those colors.

I label the bag with the size of the circle.

These are the patterns I use. I purchased them at JoAnn's.

Tip: I cut my circle pattern out on sandpaper.

I then lay the pattern on the wool the sandpaper side down. The sandpaper grips the wool and doesn't slide around. I cut around the circle and I'm done.

I'm using my circles for a pillow. I just love how this looks.

That's my project for Wednesday.

Harvest Moon by the Lake

BUNNIES LOTS AND LOTS OF BUNNIES

Bunnies that I better get done or Easter and spring will be over and I will still have bunnies all over the place. I am running a little behind this year. I was just thinking you can put bunnies out all the time. I am dressing some in Americana fabrics.

My next project will be these bears. I bought this pattern a year ago and have not made these cuties yet. Sweet Meadows Farm happens to be one of my favorite pattern designers.

And I would like you to meet my dog, Lily, she is a puggle we adopted from the dog pound two years ago. We do not know her past. We figure she must have been brought up around little kids because when our little granddaughters come from Wisconsin she follows them all over and tries to sleep in bed with them at night. This is what she does while I craft in my shop.

And that is how my Wednesday is going. Hopefully it will be warm enough to work in flower beds real soon then I will post pictures of that.

Yes our C&plg group on ebay are busy planning for spring time auctions. We are voting on the date right now. I know personally I have bought two new bunny patterns from SweetMeadow farms I plan on making up. I know others are working right now on some items, and one lady has some of the cutest items in her ebay store I hope she will list with us so you can see all the cute items she has for sale. Since the weather was so warm today , 65 degrees at my house, I am really getting in the spring fever mode. Our snow is not melted yet but I sat on my front porch on the porch swing for about 15 minutes. Loved it. I cannot believe how late Easter is this year. We do not celebrate it until April 24. That is almost May. Well hopefully that means the kids will not be in snow suits at the Easter Egg hunt at church this year. Well just thought I would take time to up date you all a little on what we are planning to do for the beginning of 2011.

I hope all our reader's had a wonderful Christmas! It's so much preparation and build-up to the big day. Then it's over in a blink and it's time to put away the decorations. A trip to Alaska

No not me but my neighbor. They left for Alaska on vacation and I got to baby sit her flowers. Mind you this lady has an acre and it is all in different flower beds. While it is wonderful to live by your own personal park it is a lot of work to babysit. We were in a heat wave and drought at the time they left for 12 days I was in charge keeping this alive. I spent 1 1/2 hours daily watering just the potted plants. But must say I owed her because she took care of my flowers for 6 weeks while we traveled this summer. So since i got a new lap top and wanted to play around and see how the picture thingy worked I took some photos to share with you all. Hope you enjoy them because fall is coming on fast here in our neck of the woods.

So i hope you enjoyed your tour of my neighbors back yard. Now mind you this is just the back yard the front yard is just as beautiful. The buiding you see is her garden shed

SUMMERTIME... and the livin is easy....

well it is summer and we are all out and about enjoying the pretty weather. Personally I love the hot humid weather but I know others do not.
This is how I try to spend as much time as possible during the summer because winter is right around the corner *blek* I am not a winter fan at all.
so if I was a rich woman this is where I would probably like to live *DAYTONA BEACH FLORIDA* We spend a week there every year and I love it. I think I could easily be a beach bum.

Then when we are home I try to spend as much time as possible outside. Although I must say the humidity has been to high even for me. But we have an above ground pool so enjoying that this summer. Grandkids and our grown kids have been here a lot this summer so it has been very busy. Plus we had two granddaughters graduate from high school. One in Wisconsin and one in Tennessee so we were on the road for about two months straight. But there is NO PLACE like home.

Although I have loaded my shop on ETSY with alot of items this week. Hurry over and check out YELLOWSWEETPOTATO Etsy shop..

Elephant Stew Recipe

I purchased a cookbook at the Salvation Army Thrift Shop this morning and found this unusual recipe in it.

ELEPHANT STEW:
1 med size elephant, 2 rabbits (optional) salt and pepper

Cut the elephant into small bite-size pcs. This will take about 2 months. Cook over a 465 deg kerosene fire about 4 wks. Serves 3800 people. If more are expected,the 2 rabbits may be added but do it only if necessary, most people don't like hare in their stew.

The April giveaway is finally here : )

Happy Spring! I just love this time of year with the birds singing and the flowers starting to bloom, soooo for this months giveaway I made a cute little floral needlepunch pouch. This is a design by Threads That Bind. I just love their designs. The back of the needlepunch piece is backed with a pretty light green wool. The back of the pouch is the same red wool as the straps on the pouch. I attached a few vintage buttons with a rusty pin.

NEW YORK CHEESECAKE

I love this cheesecake recipe, it's really big and oh so good.

PHILADELPHIA NEW YORK CHEESECAKE
Serves 16-20
Crust:
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
3 TBLSP sugar
3 Tblsp melted butter or margarine
FILLING
5 - 8 oz pkg cream cheese softened
1 cup sugar
3 Tblsp flour
1 Tblsp vanilla
1 cup sour cream
4 eggs
1 can cherry or blueberry pie filling
Preheat oven to 325 deg. Mx crumbs, sugar & butter and press firmly into springform pan. Bake 10 min.
Beat well the following ingredients: sugar, flour, vanilla with electric mixer until smooth, no lumps. Add sour cream and eggs mixing on low until well blended. Pour into crust
Bake 1 hr 10 min or until center is almost set. Refrigerate 4 hrs or better overnight to ripen. Top with pie filling.

Today I wanted to share with you this needle punch piece made by Doris. Some of you may know her on ebay as Wellingtonwoolies. She has changed her ebay ID to Luv2Punch which really suits her craft! I love the detail she has on this piece. Folks,remember this is done with DMC embroidery floss. Each little loop you see is fed into the fabric through a special type of needle. It has taken a bit of discussion and prodding but it looks like as of Feb 1st we will be using C&PLG as the new initials to type in the search box and find our listings. You see, for a very long time we have used CPLG and it worked like a charm.... until ebay made some changes in their search process. At first we noticed a few plumbing accessories mixed in with our handmades. It seems cplg is also the abbreviation for coupling as in pipes. We wondered if "Garage Guy" (as we nicnamed him ) noticed his pipe fitting were nestled among Raggedy dolls, stitcheries, candle mats, painted goodies etc. We joked that perhaps he would shop with us for his wife or girlfriend as he looked over his listings. Then we noticed he had more listings than we did and it really cramped our advertising style! The group's pretty handmade items were scatterd over a couple pages of nut tubes, PVC in assorted sizes, Pipe fittings, hose couplings and none of them primitive! lol This was not the shopping experience we wanted for our wonderful customers and so we have decided on this little change. A few gals have already started using the new initials in their listing titles and we all plan on being on board by Feb 1st. So remember, when you are searching for wonderful handmade pretties type C&PLG in the search box on any ebay page and prepare to be delighted!

It's January, 2010 and my month to offer our CPLG giveaway. I'm an animal lover, after dogs my favorite animal is probably the horse. Horses are wonderful, they even smell good!! I have chosen for my giveaway a 5"x7" punch needle piece of a horse and colt designed by Deborah St Germaine. I have used all hand dyed DMC floss and attached a wool backing. To enter the drawing for the giveaway simply add a comment and give an e-mail address telling how you can be reached. The drawing will be January 15th. My favorite cookie recipe:
~Candy's Cookies~
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup powder sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup corn starch
1 cup flour
1/8 tsp. salt
white chocolate
red, green and white jimmies (sprinkles)

Cream butter with mixer add powder sugar and vanilla.
Mix in by hand corn starch first then flour and salt.
Chill for about 2 hours.
Take a small amounts (about 1/2 teaspoon) and roll into balls.
Bake at 375 degrees for 8 minutes.
When cool dip tops in melted white chocolate and then in jimmies,
sprinkles if your not from Wisconsin.

It Is Time For The Giveaway!

Hello everyone! It is time for the October giveaway. I just love the fall, and everything that goes with it. So, I thought I would punch up this awesome turkey design by Brenda Gervais called The Horn of Plenty, in wonderful fall colors.

I punched up this design on weavers cloth with my own hand dyed embroidery floss and Valdani pearl cotton. I turned it into a pillow, by stuffing it with sawdust, and just a little bit of lavender. The lavender smells wonderful. I attached a black and red plaid wool to the back. I finished off the edge with a black and burnt orange homespun yarn. I had a lot of fun making this pillow : ).

Autumn has to be my most favorite time of year. When I moved up North, going on 4 yrs now, I got to really experience it in a new way. I adore Farmers Markets, apple cider, and the cool crisp air of Autumn.

Soooo, on to the giveaway, hee hee... That is why I chose this festive basket to decorate your home for this months giveaway. It's just a plain jane wooden twig basket with pumkins and a gourd mixed with beautiful colored Autumn leaves and berries. ~August GiveAway!~

I'm posting this giveaway day early, but I'm going to be really busy tomorrow checking out and entering some of my wares in our local county fair. So, if you are signing up today, you can enter in both July and August. How is that for GREAT?! Trish will be posting a winner tomorrow ~ so don't delay!

Now for the August giveaway info ~

I've made this sweet prairie, stump dolly with a OOAK stitched apron. The dolly is called a stump doll because she does not have legs. I have formed her body from osnaburg & filled her with fine sawdust. For added detail, I have hand stitched the seams with linen thread. She is dressed simply, prim with a wool dress that is the color of olde parchment. Her bonnet/scarf is a scrap from an old grain sack that has been tied on with a strand of jute twine.

Her apron has been stitched with cotton floss on linen with early motifs ~ a horse, an olde key, flowers, and a cross. I've also stitched the initials 'MES'. Why MES? I have a great fondness for the woman that lived on our farm before us. Her name is Mary Elizabeth Sowers. :)

The dolly has been aged with my walnut & spice mix... adding instant oldness. I've trimmed her with a few rusty pins, a bell, and a sprig of preserved, Sweet Annie. (The Sweet Annie isn't in the photographs, but it is tucked into the jute around her waist.)

She measures about 10 1/2 inches from the top of her head to the edge of her dress and about 4 1/2 inches from hand to hand.

Biscuit, my walking buddy

I'd like you to meet the new love in my life. For Mother's Day this year my 81 year old neighbor recieved a 4 month old puppy from her son. His name is Biscuit and he is cute and sweet and a real fun lovin' guy! She doesn't like walking him, so I walk him every morning and it's a great way to start the day. I get to play and have fun with him for about 30 minutes every morning and then return him to his owner. I really look forward to our time together. Ain't he sweet???

Christmas in July

If you are in need of a Christmas "fix" take a peek at this beautiful punchneedle ornament. I used a wool pennyrug pattern from an old issue of Country Marketplace magazine and made it into a punchneedle piece, then placed it into a metal candle lid. I'm still working on how to put a stylish hanger on it. Any ideas?

A little crafting tip... if you are using the new corn eco-fill, don't put your crafts in the oven. I baked a doll last night and she needed to be re-stuffed afterwards. The eco-fill shrunk! I personally am not a fan of this stuff, but I have a box I have to use up then it's back to my favorite - poly fil. So soft!

I thought for those of you who don't do needle punch, you might like to see what the back looks like before the wool backing is sewn on. Punch needle is worked from the back. Picture #1 is the front of this piece and picture #2 is what the back looked like before I covered it.

It's May 1 and time for another giveaway. I'm offering a punch needle piece with a crow on a jug.

The P/N piece is hand made by me and my own design. The back is plaid wool and is attached to the front with a buttonhole stitch.

what i am doing Wednesday

Well let me tell you I have been sick for the last week. It has been about 10 years since I have had a cold/flu so I must say YUK.
I feel a lot better today so thought I would go out to my shop and work on items for our CPLG craft show that is starting on April 28.
Here is my shadow today when I am trying to take pictures such a help LILY is

I have had this pattern for a flower annie doll for about a year or two and finally got one finished. I love the fabrics on this doll. Barb found this for me at hobby lobby. The doll is finished and she is cute. I put silk flowers with her instead of the fabric ones the pattern had. This doll will be for sale in our on line craft show

Now I will show you all the pictures of my shop and all the items I am taking pictures of.

Lst me add here we have most of our booth done for the show on April 28 and OH MY GOODNEss such talent in this group and so many wonderful items will be for sale

We are pretty excited in CPLG-land these days. We, as a group, are participating in the EZ Craft Show online spring craft show! We have started stocking our booth with a wonderful variety of items and they are priced to sell! It's Wednesday~ What I have been Working on!

Hello Friends

This is my first blog post, so please bare with me. My name is Sally, I am proud to be a part of such a wonderful talented group of ladies and call them friends. I live in Northern Ohio with my husband Robert and Moose ~ our Lhasa that totally grew into his name.

I love this photo, he reminds me of Garfield and clearly you can tell I was bothering him while trying to get this picture. Look at that discusted look on his furry face.

What I am working on today.. pretty much the same every day/night. I sit on my hiney in front of this silly ole monitor and try to create graphics. I have been doing this for about 11 years. I have been on ebay since 2002, where I put them to use creating auction templates and such. My latest interest is making hang tags with my primitive designs and mini product tags.

The other day Robert and I went out to lunch at our favorite Deli and they have this saying painted on the wall down a long hallway. Save the Earth . . . It's the only planet that has chocolate . . .

That has been on my mind and I finally came up with an address label so I could use that saying. So here is what I came up with. I just love it.

You never know, this might be the start to a entirely new line of whimsical sayings hmmmm . . . I will have to see about that. I am neither whimsical or whitty.

APRIL GIVEAWAY ~ Yelloware Eggs

I've been vacillating for weeks trying to decide what to offer for the April giveaway. Then these little guys came yesterday and I knew I had to offer them. By the time the winner receives the package Easter will be long gone, but I know a yelloware lover won't mind.

These eggs are ceramic with a crackled finish. One is banded and the other polka-dotted. They have a wire ribbon that can easily be replaced to better suit your decorating style, if desired.

What have I been Working on Wednesday!

Well my working on Wednesday project has taken 2 weeks....so far.

I have been cleaning out closets!!!

The last closet I started was the closet of my 22 year old son, Brian. This closet really, really needed to be cleaned out. My son told me he would get to it soon, well he 's been saying that for months now. So on Saturday morning my husband, Mike and I went up to his room armed with garbage bags and cleaning supplies to get that closet clean. I have to say that Goodwill was a big winner in this project. LOL The room wasn't that bad but he got a new bed so I wanted to give his room a good cleaning. As many of you know one project leads to another.... I told Brian I would help him if he wanted his room painted. The next day we were ripping down the wall paper border and painting. Now the room is perfect! I checked last night and the room is still perfect...2 days and counting. LOL

I also cleaned out our office closet and found this poem that I know many of you can relate to.

A Crafter's Poem

Crafts are here, crafts are there.
My craft supplies are everywhere.
I really should clean this mess,
But I like it, I must confess.
Floor is littered, chairs are piled,
Kitchen’s looking pretty wild.
On the table counter too,
Seems that any place will do.
Hall is stacked with cartons high,
Filled with things folks like to buy.
Garage is full, but so far…
There’s still room to park the car.
I never have an idle day,
New ideas come my way.
Don’t know yet what I’ll create,
But at least my imagination’s great.
My family smiles, they don’t complain,
Although at times I know I'm a pain.
But when all is said and done,
I really am a crafty one !!!!
